Capital Airlines began as an air service started by car dealaership owner Clifford Ball, Clifford Ball Airlines, in 1928 between Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Ball sold his interest in 1930 and in 1936 it became known as Pennsylvania Central Airlines. In 1941 the offices were moved to Washington DC, and in 1948 the name was changed to Capital Airlines.
DC-3's were used starting in 1939. DC-4's were added in 1946. In 1950 the Lockheed Constellation L-049E was added to the fleet, followed by the revolutionary Vickers Viscount in 1955. However in the late 1950's financial difficulties forced Vickers to foreclose on the entire fleet of Viscounts. In 1961 Capital Airlines merged with United Airlines in the largest airline merger to date.
Capital Airlines is represented here in the late 1950's. Pennsylvania Central Airlines is also represented through textures and timetables from 1942. Pilots flying for Capital and PCA will enjoy the aircraft and schedules from a time period gone by.
